Look what we made in our second class of the Childrens Series Sewing Class.  Yes, Designer Pillowcases.  I truly had so much fun with this group of talented girls.  Our first class they learned how to sew and made a simple pin cushion.  That's me in the middle.  The girls were so excited about making there own pillowcase.  They learned a new method of putting together there pillowcase, the tube method.

Demonstrating how to wind a bobbin

Using the Tube method to create her pillowcase.  What a beautiful pin cushion!
A look inside the class room!
The finished product!  She made this in less then 2 hours.

I have so much fun teaching children the art of sewing.  I am blessed to meet wonderful girls and boys.  Yes, sewing is not just for girls.  Each month I am offering a series of  3 to 4 sewing classes.  For the month of November there will be a Beginner Class, Apron Class, and a Christmas Stocking Class.

A special THANK YOU to Mel for taking all these great pictures!

Pressing Ham

sewingham

Not exactly what your were expecting, right?  Well, no I'm not talking about Ham you eat.
Your probably saying what is that a picture of, well keep reading this is good.

A lot of people ask me, How do I get a professional look when I am sewing? or
When I sew why do I have that homemade look?  The answer is simple, if you have taken a class with me before, you have heard me say it over and over.  Press as you Go! A very important Rule.

BUT, I'd like to elaborate on that.  Because if you don't have the right notions you still won't have quite the professional look.   A big part of achieving a professional look to your finished project is good pressing.

The Sewing Gadget of this week is the Sewing Ham, or Sleeve Board. I found this excellent tutorial from
http://www.mymeasuringtape.blogspot.com/  It cost about $12.00 in the stores.  But you can make it for much less incorporating your own fabric for your own design Tailor Ham.  Since I found this tutorial I won't be purchasing one.

Remember:
When sewing, never sew over an un-pressed seam. Always press the seam open as you go. This will make sewing easier and will improve the quality & hang of your finished garment.  Giving you a professional finished garment or project.

Happy Sewing!

Changes - Sewing Classes

I had a great 4th of July with my family and friends and I hope you did too.  I have been creating a lot of new items for my online store.  I'm happy to say business is starting to pickup.  I am trying to gear up before the holiday's get here.

I have so many interested and I have a passion for them all.  But there comes a time when you have to make a business assessment.  It is very hard to accommodate the many different schedules.   So there are a few changes to the classes that I offer.  I will be only teaching 1 Saturday a month.  The second Saturday of the month will be my designated sewing day.  Classes will still be based on registration.

I have updated the CLASSES and REGISTRATION pages.  It is much more user friendly.  I will always have a Beginner Class the Sewing 102 Class will be a project class.  Each month the project class might change.

Right now I am also putting the childrens classes on hold.  If you have a few friends that are interested in sewing.  I would be more then happy to have a childrens class.

I will be blogging more also, sharing sewing tips and making a few helpful videos.  So please check back.

This is not the end of sewing classes.  This is a new beginning with a better way.

Thank sew much!

Button Hole - Thursday Tip

A little tip for perfect buttonholes. When creating buttonholes always use a piece of lightweight interfacing on the wrong side of the fabric to stabilize your buttonhole.  Perfect each time!

Sewing Tip

THURSDAY 's  SEWING TIP

Trying something new on Thursday's. As you all know I enjoy sewing as well as teaching people how to sew. While planning classes to teach and sewing my own things to either sell or make as gifts or for my family, I read a lot of material about sewing. Being a Sewing Teaching I have to stay up on different techniques and products. Well, to make a long story short, I don't recall where I read this but I thought this would be great to share.

This is kind of my Upcycle Sewing Tip. If you have been to a sewing class, you would have noticed my bobbins are usually slightly unwound. Or when I am packing or unpacking a bobbin might fall on the floor. This drives me nuts. I know there are notions you can purchase to store your bobbins. But I found a way to store my bobbins using what I already have in my bathroom. When my girls were younger they were very interested in painting there toe nails. So we went out and bought little manicure sets. Well, take a look!

National Craft Month

Spring is in the air!  What a beautiful day.  I spent most of the day re-organizing my sewing area.  What a job, I have accumulated a lot of beautiful fabric.  It is always good to rummage thru my collection because it get my creative juices flowing.  I was sorting and matching fabric for my spring collection so keep your eyes open for a posting about fabulous Children's line of dresses.

Okay, so back to the upcoming sewing classes.  This Saturday is a Children's Project Class, we will be making a pillow case.  What a wonderful beginner project to reinforce your child's sewing skills that they learned in the first class Children Beginner Sewing Class.  This is a wonderful asset to there bedroom.  When my girls made their own pillow cases, it helped encourage them to make there beds everyday.  This was because they were so proud of what they accomplished.  Of course, I loved it!

IF, you haven't registered for the Adult Beginner Class and the Project; 1 Hour Pants Class yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?  The class is Saturday, March 24, 2012 and people are already registering.  I just don't want you to miss out on this class.  In honor of National Craft Month the class is priced at $35.00.  Next month it won't be this low.  Come make a stylish pair of casual pants for the Spring.

Thank you
